D 21

D 21 participates in the project by giving expertise from it’s network, participation in the work- shops and the dissemination of the project results by it’s communication means. The Initiative D21 is a registered non-profit organization with headquarters in Berlin. It is Europe's largest partnership of politics and economics for the Information Society. Nearly 200 member companies and -organizations in all industries get together with the political partners of the Federal and Regional Governments in this network. The initiative was launched in 1999 with the task to prevent the digital divide in Germany. It is funded by membership fees and donations. A key goal of D21 is to stimulate economic growth and sustainable jobs through better education, skills and ability of innovation. Therefore the initiative works together with political partners in practice-oriented and interdisciplinary projects. All measures of D21 have a close relation to information and communication technologies, as crucial basis for the future of Germany. Under this scope specific emphasis is given to IT use in schools and related teachers education.
